10.3.2 Types of Salts
Following are the main classes of salts.
(i) Normal salts (ii) Acidic salts (iii) Basic salt (iv) Double salts (v) Mixed salts (vi) Complex salts
(i) Normal or Neutral Salts
A salt formed by the total replacement of ionizable ions of an acid by a positive metal ion or ions is called normal or neutral salt. These salts are neutral to litmus, that is,

(ii) Acidic Salts
These salts are formed by partial replacement of a replaceable ions of an acid by a positive metal ion.
These salts turn blue litmus red.
Acidic salts react with bases to form normal salts.
